Barrett’s Workshop

So I was walking down the driveway the other day and I noticed a sampling of items stashed in the bushes.  I hesitated for a moment and wondered why those particular items were placed where they were.  Then I am sure my attention was diverted by some sort of scream or demand coming from afar.  Since then, I have learned that the hodge podge bush collection is Barrett’s workshop, as he calls it.  He asked me to enter and then proceeded to sell me items from his workshop.  You can’t beat a rake for $1!  Or a red soccer ball for free!  Then I realized what the workshop really was….a garage sale.  I took the kids garage sale-ing the other day and Barrett loved it.  It’s pretty cute if you ask me, but then again I’m his Mom :)

SCHOOL!

Barrett's first day of school

I was worried about this day because of Barrett's shyness. However, it was easy as pie and he was very excited about school. The first day he met a friend named Solomon and they became instant buddies. They tell each other they are best friends all the time; it's really cute. Solomon actually slept over one night and they played really hard. Danni felt a little left out at times, but it went pretty smoothly. Barrett also spied a pretty girl in his class that he talks to me about. Her name is Bailey and he smiles shyly when he talks about her. According to the teacher he doesn't pay her any attention at school and she was shocked when I said he had a crush on her. Things seem to be going pretty well overall. He has only been sent to the "thinking chair" twice and the teachers love him. He did have to do some homework one day because he was too busy daydreaming in class. This tickles me because a lot of my report cards said I was a big time daydreamer. When I ask him what he did at school he always says he had a snack and played on the playground and nothing else. I want to hear all the details, but rarely do I get any! He took his baseball bat and a transformer to show and tell and this week wants to take his sword and shield and the week after that he said his Ipod (that he got for his birthday). Danni is really jealous he gets to go to school. She wants to go so bad. I still take her to mom's morning out once a week so she gets her "school." While Barrett is in school Danni and I go do girl stuff, errands, the gym, or the bookstore where we put on puppet shows in the kids section. Everyone seems to be adjusting very well to school :)

I Wanna Be A Cowboy

So the other day at breakfast Barrett looks at me and says, "Mom, when I grow up I wanna be a cowboy." I give him a crooked head look and say, "A real cowboy with a horse or an Oklahoma State Cowboy?" He says, "An Oklahoma State Cowboy." Music to my ears. I give him knuckles and then he says, "And a real cowboy.....both." That made me smile. That's his first declaration of what he wants to be when he grows up. Cute.

What are taters and umbrellas for?

These are the questions I hear from Danni and Barrett these days? Oh boy I have had to answer some doozies. Today I had to explain the concept of gravity. When it rains I have to explain where the rain comes from and why. And yes, I've even had a mini birds and bees talk with them. Yikes!
